A year ago hosting our social media platform looked like a distant dream! But Vivaldi Social, our Mastodon instance, was meant to happen.
We loved the idea of a decentralized social network and took up the challenge to give people a better platform to connect. And to our surprise, within three weeks, Vivaldi Social was up and running. Exactly, a year ago on the 15th of November 2022, we gave a new home to the Vivaldi Community and to thousands who were looking for better social media alternatives to connect.
We are proud to be the first browser company to host our own Mastodon instance in Vivaldi Social. We believe a distributed, open standards, non-tracking social network is a better solution than the current popular social networks which build massive profiles on users and through that contribute to division and hate.”

What is special about Vivaldi Social?
Vivaldi Social is one of many decentralized Mastodon instances, using the ActivityPub standard to communicate with each other and the rest of the Fediverse. As a company seeking to advance alternatives in the browser space, we believe in the idea of a distributed social network based on open standards with no owner, no surveillance capitalism, and no tracking or profiling of users. During this year, our love and confidence in the Fediverse have only grown stronger.
It’s encouraging to witness the smart, funny, and compassionate discussions on the platform daily. We are happy to see so many enjoy this platform without any ads and algorithms and continue to make new friends.
