Ten years ago, we launched the first Technical Preview of Vivaldi with one simple goal, to create “a browser for our friends” as an alternative to Big Tech.
A decade later, we now have millions of friends around the globe. The journey to this point hasn’t been without its challenges. Being employee-owned, rather than flashy funding rounds or the influence of outside investors, means we’ve taken the road less traveled in the tech industry.
While Big Tech operates with endless budgets and aggressive data monetization, we’ve stayed true to our principles. We put independence, privacy, and our friends first. This means focusing on substance over shortcuts, and while it’s been a tougher climb, it’s been immensely rewarding.
Back in 2015, Vivaldi was only available for desktop (Windows, Linux, and Mac) and built on web technologies that made our browser naturally cross-platform. Today, we’re everywhere, on iOS, Android, even in cars. Every feature we’ve built, every innovation we’ve introduced, and every milestone we’ve reached demonstrates our commitment to creating something truly meaningful for our friends.
What will the next ten years bring? We’ll be honest, we don’t have a crystal ball. Tech moves fast, and the future’s bound to be full of surprises. But here’s what we do know:
- We’ll stay independent.
- We’ll keep fighting for a better Web
- And we’ll never stop building the most powerful, personal, and private browser for our friends.
This year, we are celebrating our anniversary with a variety of exciting events and surprises. Stay tuned and keep an eye out because you won’t want to miss a thing!
Here’s to the next chapter, and to all of you who’ve been part of this journey,
Thank you for being our friends!
