Vivaldi 8.1 on Mobile: custom app icons on Android and improvements for the PDF reader

Vivaldi 8.1 arrives on mobile with a highly requested customization feature on Android, and improvements for an even smoother browsing.

Android

Custom App Icons

Android users had been asking for it, since this customization option was already available on iOS. So we got to work! With a big selection of custom app icons, users can now finally match their Vivaldi icon with their device’s aesthetic.

Apart from the classic red-and-white Vivaldi logo, users get now to choose from a catalogue of 20 different icons, ranging from solid pastels to camouflage, from wood-style to rainbow gradient.

The option is easily findable by going to Settings > App icon.

The users are always in control

With our previous update we brought a built-in PDF reader, to reduce the friction of having to switch apps to read PDF documents.

After listening to our users’ feedback, we’ve now added an option to our Content Settings to let them decide whether to use the PDF reader built into Vivaldi, or open the files in another app on their phone.

It’s easy: we build the browser, users are in control.

iOS

Switch in seconds and high-level browsing

With this update we’ve also polished our iOS version, which arrives today with an extensive number of fixes and under-the-hood improvements.

Earlier this year we added easy import from Safari to Vivaldi on iOS. There is no need to say goodbye to previous browsing data to start using this privacy-friendly European browser. With a few clicks, users can bring their bookmarks, passwords, history, and more, right into Vivaldi.

To import browsing data from Safari, go to Settings > Safari import.

And for users attached to their emotional support tabs, Vivaldi on mobile has powerful tools to keep them handy without getting overwhelmed. Tabs can be grouped in Stacks and displayed in two levels —with stacks sitting in the top row of the Tab Bar, and tabs inside them in a row below; or rather with the Accordion style for a more compact look with more space for web content.
