Vivaldi Browser Brings Long-Awaited Two-Level Tab Stacks to iOS in Version 7.9

The powerful tab management feature, loved by Android users since 2021, finally arrives on iPhone. Both Android and iOS get Daily Image wallpapers. Android also sees big things for Desktop Mode.

Oslo, Norway – 26th April

Vivaldi Technologies today released Vivaldi 7.9 for Mobile, delivering one of its most-requested iOS features to date: Two-Level Tab Stacks. The update is available now on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Tab chaos, solved on iOS

Two-Level Tab Stacks give iOS users a smarter way to manage the browser tabs that inevitably pile up during research, shopping, travel planning, or keeping up with the news. Tabs are grouped into stacks displayed in the top row of the Tab Bar, with the tabs inside each stack appearing in a second row below, only when that stack is active, keeping the interface clean at all times.

Android users have relied on this feature since 2021. With 7.9, it arrives on iOS fully refined, with a choice of two stacking styles: Two-Level or Accordion, configurable under Settings → Tabs → Tab Stacking Style. No other mobile browser offers this level of tab organisation.

To create a stack, users simply long-press the New Tab button and select “New Tab Stack.”

Switching from Safari just got easier

iOS users considering a move to Vivaldi can now import their bookmarks, passwords, browsing history, and stored payment information directly from Safari in a single step, found under Settings → Safari Import.

A fresh look, every day

Also new for iOS in 7.9 is the Daily Image feature, which displays a new curated photograph on the Start Page each day. Users can now optionally sync that image as their phone wallpaper as well, keeping the Start Page and home screen in step — refreshed automatically, every day.

Daily Image is also coming to Vivaldi for Android in this release, bringing the same daily visual refresh to the Start Page for Android users.

Desktop Mode advances on Android

Vivaldi 7.9 continues to improve DeX and Desktop Mode support for Android, which transforms a phone into a desktop browser experience when connected to an external display, keyboard, and mouse. Desktop Mode is currently available as a stable feature on Samsung DeX devices and remains in Beta for broader Android. Version 7.9 brings further refinements to behaviour in these environments, with more updates on the way.

Availability

Vivaldi 7.9 for Mobile is available now via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
