The Vivaldi browser embarks on its journey into mobile, releasing a fully-featured beta version for Android devices.

Vivaldi presents the beta version of its browser for Android

OSLO, Norway – September 9th, 2019: Vivaldi announces the beta release of its new, fully-featured browser for Android mobile devices.

A major step in the space of mobile browsing, the new browser is a continuation of the desktop experience of Vivaldi that lets users transform their everyday interactions on the Web with great ease.

Vivaldi’s mission is to give users a browser that lets them do things their way while respecting their privacy. It’s the most customizable browser on the market but does not track how people choose to use it. And its vision for mobile browsing is no different.

Users can now browse the Web with power, security, and style on Android devices. (available on Android version 5 and up)

The browser you choose on your mobile device requires more and more agility to be effective in your day-to-day. Vivaldi rises to the challenge,” says Vivaldi CEO Jon von Tetzchner. “As the way people use phones continues to evolve, we’ll strive to continually innovate, bringing the best possible browsing experience to your mobile devices.

Taking Vivaldi mobile

Vivaldi takes inspiration from the real needs of users. That’s why it retains design concepts across platforms, putting a focus on ease of use.

Vivaldi on Android is a perfect complement to its desktop version. It has Vivaldi’s distinctive look and feel and a familiar set of built-in tools (including Panels, Speed Dials, Notes and Capture). And, of course, it gives users a secure way to take Vivaldi – and their browsing data – anywhere and everywhere.

As in the desktop version, when users launch Vivaldi on Android, they get started with Speed Dials – their favorite sites organized the way they like it.

Here’s how the interface will look when a new tab is opened:

Vivaldi Android user interface

In the bottom-left corner of the browser, users will find Panels a quick way to access useful tools like Bookmarks, History, Notes, and Downloads. And to the right, the tab switcher lets users access regular, private, and synced tabs in addition to the trash can to retrieve recently closed tabs.

As expected, the Address Bar packs a punch – letting users search using any installed search engine using nicknames or find a bookmark in an instant.

Key functionality is all just one tap away. And easy-to-use vertical and horizontal swipe navigation is shared across Speed Dials, Panels and the Tab Switcher to keep things flowing.

A New Caliber of Browsing

Users can now browse with dark and light themes more creatively and efficiently while complementing their busy, on-the-go lifestyles. Here are Vivaldi’s unique and friendly features that make it different from the pack:

Take Notes like never before

Vivaldi’s unique and robust tool – Notes – lets users stay ahead, even on the phone. This is something that no other browser offers built-in.

Use Notes to quickly add checklists, agenda items or facilitate a research project without the disruption of switching apps.
What’s more? Users can sync Notes securely between all devices – a productive way to help do more, faster.

Browse faster with Speed Dials and Bookmarks

Vivaldi’s Speed Dials are much more than just top sites. They’re a way to get quick access to favorite sites and organize which bookmarks should show on a new tab page.

Users can create multiple Speed Dials for different tasks or categories, and group and manage their bookmarks into folders – all with the touch of your fingertips

The Bookmark Manager allows users to add and edit descriptions and nicknames to websites that are searchable from the Address Bar – another unique way to stay organized.

Manage Tabs in just a tap

It is hard to imagine Vivaldi without its elegant tabbed browsing. Tabs are fundamental for browsing and Vivaldi wants to keep them organized on mobile too, just the way it does on desktop.

Rather than copy/pasting a URL to create a duplicate of a tab, create a copy of the current tab by selecting Clone Tab from the menu. A unique option in Vivaldi that saves a lot of time.

Vivaldi’s tab switcher makes finding and managing tabs a breeze as well. With a quick swipe, you can find an open tab, private tab, recently closed tab or even a tab that is open on another device.

Search and Switch engines instantly

Another unique feature in Vivaldi is the ability to switch search engines on the fly in the Address Bar using nicknames.

Each of the pre-installed search engines uses the first letter of its name as a nickname. Users can simply type this nickname in the Address Bar (‘d’ for DuckDuckGo or ‘e’ for Ecosia, for example) followed by a space to select that specific engine.

Keep tabs private

Browse privately on mobile now as private tabs do not save information once the open tab is closed. Privacy is Vivaldi’s priority. Websites that users visit, cookies, temporary files will not be stored on the device when browsing in a private tab.

For example, if a user lends his mobile to a friend to browse, he can stay logged in on the main window, while his friend checks out his or her account in a private tab.

Sync and private tabs on Vivaldi Beta for Android

Sync on-the-go, seamlessly and safely

Users can synchronize their browsing data between installations of Vivaldi on other devices and Vivaldi on Android.

They can choose which data to sync, including: Bookmarks and Speed Dials, saved passwords and autofill information, History (with only typed URLs), and, uniquely, Notes.

Data security is extremely important to Vivaldi. All synced data – including a user’s saved passwords – is protected with end-to-end data encryption and never shared in the clear with Vivaldi. To keep user data safe, no third-party servers are used; only Vivaldi servers.

Capture Screenshots

Users can snap a screenshot of any website or a selection of the screen with this unique built-in functionality.

But there is more to just taking screenshots. Users can take screenshots of an entire webpage, which is especially handy when they have to save and share detailed information.

Capture and Reader Mode settings in Vivaldi Beta for Android

Cut the clutter while reading

Reader View can be enabled in Settings under Accessibility options. Once enabled, users can read news and online articles on their phone without any distraction.

True innovation is only possible through an open, collaborative approach. That’s the relationship we share with our users,” says Jon von Tetzchner. “We’re working closely to develop a browser that they call their own – a browser that will help them to be efficient anywhere – on any device.
