Imagine that you have some background music playing in one browser tab, but you come across a video (or some other media with audio) in another tab that you want to watch and listen to. So you go to mute or pause your music and only then start watching the video. And after you’re finished you need to go back to unmute or unpause the music. Annoying isn’t it? Vivaldi has a better solution to offer.

1. Go to Settings > Tabs > Tab Features > Mute Tab Audio.
2. Enable «Prioritize Active Tab».

That way you can just start playing the video in the active tab and Vivaldi will automatically mute the audio coming from other tabs. Once you’re done watching the video, the audio from other tabs will be unmuted. Sweet! 😎

With a search widget on your iPhone’s or iPad’s Home Screen, you can open a new tab or a private tab and start entering a search term or a web page URL into Vivaldi with only one tap on the widget. Additionally, you can open the QR scanner.

To add a widget to your Home Screen:

1. Long press on your Home Screen.
2. Tap on the + button in the top right corner of the screen.
3. Find Vivaldi’s widget and tap on it.
4. Select whether you want to add Quick Actions or just a simple Search widget.
5. Tap on «Add Widget».
6. Tap and hold to move it around on the Home Screen.

Whenever a video can be moved to a pop-out window, a small icon appears on the video that allows you to do so quickly. If Pop-out Video, aka Picture-in-Picture, is a feature you never use, you might want to hide the little icon from appearing whenever you hover over a video.

To hide the button:

1. Go to Settings > Webpages.
2. Disable «Picture-in-Picture Button on Videos».

In Vivaldi Mail, Outbox is a sub-folder in All Messages, where you can store message drafts that you’ve finished writing, but don’t want to send just yet.

To queue emails instead of sending:

1. In the Mail Composer, click the little arrow (▼) next to the «Send» button.
2. Select «Queue».
3. When you’re done writing an email click the «Queue» button (previously «Send»).

To send all emails in the Outbox.

1. Open the Mail Panel.
2. Click «Send from all accounts» at the top of the panel.

To report posts on Vivaldi Social.

1. Click on the 3 dot menu button in the bottom right corner of the post.
2. Select «Report [username]».
3. Pick a reason.
4. Select the offending posts.
5. Add a comment.
6. Submit the report.

To Flag posts or users on the Forum:

1. Click on the 3 dot menu button in the bottom right corner of the post.
2. Select «Flag this post» or «Flag this user», if more than one of their posts is inappropriate.
3. Pick a reason.
4. If you chose «Other», add a comment.
5. Submit the report.

To report a blog:

1. Below an offending post, click on «Report».
2. Pick a reason.
3. Add a comment.
4. Submit the report.

Have you ever considered having a preference for which tab to focus on next when you close a tab you no longer need? With Vivaldi you can do just that. In addition to prioritizing related tabs, you can choose to open tabs you had focused on before the closed tab or open the tab that was on the left/right side of the closed tab.

To make your choice:

1. Go to Settings > Tabs > Close Tab Activation.
2. Choose in which order tabs should be activated after closing another tab:
   • In recently used order,
   • Left in the Tab order,
   • Right in Tab order.

Seeing suggestions from your browsing history helps to get to pages you want to visit again faster, but what to do with suggestions that are no longer relevant? Remove them of course. Here’s how!

To delete a history entry from suggestions:

1. Tap on the Address Bar to open the drop-down menu.
2. Long press on the suggestion you want to remove (either a visited site’s favicon or a typed search term).
3. Tap «OK» on the confirmation dialog.

Speed Dials are Bookmarks that are displayed on your browser’s Start Page. In Vivaldi, you can choose how they’re displayed.

To change the look in Vivaldi on iOS:

1. Go to  Vivaldi menu > Settings > Start Page Layout.
2. Select your preferred layout:
   • Large Speed Dials,
   • Medium Speed Dials
   • Small Speed Dials,
   • Speed Dial list.

With Vivaldi’s highly customizable user interface, you can move toolbars around as you like. The Panels Toolbar, hosting your Bookmarks, Downloads, Notes, Web Panels and more can be located either on the left or right side of the browser window. Especially when you prefer vertical Tabs (see Tip #204), you need to think about whether you want to have Tabs and Panels on either side of the window or both on the same side.

To move Panels:

1. Go to Settings > Panels > Panel Position.
2. Choose either Left or Right.

Whether it’s your #introduction post, big news, or just something you want people to see, you can pin the post and it’ll be displayed before all your recent posts just below your bio.

To pin a post on Vivaldi Social:

1. Publish the post you want to pin or find one from your older posts.
2. Click on the 3 dot menu below the post.
3. Select «Pin on profile».

You can later unpin it from the same menu.

With the integrated Vivaldi Calendar, you can quickly add events and get back to what you were doing in no time by opening the new event dialog using either Quick Commands, a Keyboard Shortcut, or a Mouse Gesture.

Quick Commands

1. Open Quick Commands (F2 / ⌘ E).
2. Type in «Add Calendar Event (dialog)» and press Enter.
3. Add the event.

Keyboard Shortcut

1. First, create the shortcut in Settings > Keyboard > Window > Add Calendar Event (dialog).
2. Use the shortcut to open the event dialog.
3. Add the event.

Mouse Gesture

1. First, create the gesture in Settings > Mouse > New Gesture > Add Calendar Event (dialog).
2. Use the shortcut to open the event dialog.
3. Add the event.

Following a social media feed, live updates to an event, or changes on the financial market in Web Panels? With periodic reloading of the panel you can always be up to date with the latest information.

To automatically reload Web Panels at your chosen internal:

1. Right-click on the web panel’s button.
2. Select Periodic Reload and how often you want the content to reload.
