Do you prefer to give the buttons on the toolbars plenty of breathing room, or do you want them packed together nice and snug next to each other? As with most things in Vivaldi, you’re in control and can decide what works best for you.

To change the UI density:

1. Go to Settings > Appearance > Window Appearance > User Interface Density.
2. Choose between:
   • Regular i.e. the more spacious layout, and
   • Compact layout.

When you’re viewing multiple browser or app windows side by side, it can be difficult to see, which one you’ve focused on. Fading Vivaldi window’s colors when it’s not in focus helps to make it more obvious.

To enable background window color fading:

1. Go to Settings > Appearance > Window Appearance.
2. Enable «Fade Colors in Background Windows».

Images, videos and other types of files can convey important information or just decorate your blog posts. On your blog on vivaldi.net you can manage all media files in the Media Library.

To access the Media Library:

1. Go to your blog’s Dashboard (for example, by clicking on the blog’s name on the black menubar at the top of the blog).
2. Click on «Media» in the menu on the left side.

In the Media Library, you can upload new files, as well as view, edit and delete existing files.

Is your quick reply email getting longer than expected or do you temporarily want to hide it altogether?

To resize the Quick Reply field:

1. Place the mouse cursor on the top edge of the Quick Reply section.
2. Click and drag upwards to expand the area and downwards to make it smaller. Drag all the way down towards the bottom edge of the window to minimize it altogether.

In addition to individual Speed Dial bookmarks, you can add thumbnails to Speed Dial folders (see Tip #69).

To add a custom thumbnail image to a bookmark folder:

Option 1

1. Open the Start Page.
2. Right-click on a folder and select «Select Custom Thumbnail».
3. Locate the image file you want to use.
4. Click «Open».

Option 2

1. Open the Bookmarks Panel or Bookmarks Manager.
2. Select the bookmarks folder.
3. In the information section (name, nickname, description), hover over the folder icon.
4. Click on «Select Custom Thumbnail».
5. Locate the image file you want to use.
6. Click «Open».

The recommended image size is 440×360px and most image formats, including animated GIFs, are supported.

When Vivaldi is your default browser on iOS, you can create web page shortcuts for the Home Screen. That way you can access your most viewed websites even faster.

To create a Home Screen shortcut:

1. Open the web page you want to add to the Home Screen.
2. Go to the Vivaldi menu > Share.
3. Select «Add to Home Screen».
4. If needed update the shortcut name.
5. Tap on «Add».

On Vivaldi Social, you have control over which notifications you’ll be alerted about. The rest can be put into their own folder or ignored altogether.

To review notification settings:

1. On Vivaldi Social, go to Notifications > Show settings (top right corner of the middle panel).
2. In the «Manage notifications from» section, choose whether you want to accept, filter, or ignore notifications from the following groups:
   • People you don’t follow
   • People not following you
   • New accounts
   • Unsolicited private mentions
   • Moderated accounts

Reverse image search is a great way to find similar images to the one you’re currently viewing. Just right-click on the picture and select «Search for image» (sometimes the option can be in the «Image» subfolder).

The results will be provided by your default image search engine, so pick the one you want to see results from.

To review your settings:

1. Go to Settings > Search > Image Search Engine.
2. Select, whether you want to get results from Bing, Google, or a search engine you’ve added yourself.

Bookmarks, Tabs, Passwords, Notes, History, etc. – you can easily access all of it and more in Vivaldi on all your devices when you use the Sync feature. But, whether you sync all data or just some of it, is up to you.

To sync selected data:

1. Go to Settings > Sync.
2. Log in to your account and enter the encryption password.
3. Go to «Sync Selected Data»
4. Toggle on and off the data types you want to Sync.
5. Click «Apply Changes».
6. Do the same on all devices.

When sharing the URL itself is not convenient or possible, you can create a QR code for the web page you currently have open in Vivaldi on Android.

To create a QR code:

1. Open the web page you want to generate the QR code for.
2. Go to the Vivaldi menu > Share.
3. From the row of options (screenshot, print, etc.) swipe left and select QR Code.

When the code has been created, you can either download the QR code as an image or show your device’s screen to someone, who can scan the QR code with their device.

Do you often show things on the web to someone sitting next to you and discover yourself thinking that you’d prefer if they couldn’t see your previous searches, history, and more? A great solution for that is to disable the Address Field Drop-Down menu. That way, matching suggestions won’t be displayed as you type a search term or a link in the Address Field.

To disable the Address Field Drop-Down Menu:

1. Go to Settings > Address Bar > Drop-Down Menu.
2. Disable «Show Drop-Down when Typing».

Did you come across an interesting article you’d like to save for later, but it’s not open in Vivaldi? There’s an easy way you can add it to Vivaldi’s Reading List without needing to open the link in Vivaldi first.

To add a link to the Reading List:

1. Locate the share feature in the app.
2. Find Vivaldi from the suggested apps list and tap on it.
3. Select «Add to Reading List»

In some cases, the suggestion list includes two separate Vivaldi entries, one for opening the link in the browser and the other for adding to the Reading List.
